I can release it manually from the inside but nothing I do with the remote or door switch will unlock the lift gate. Online search turns up other instances and all say just go to dealer for a repair. Approach car, unlock using remote, go to boot, press button, it won't open. Open a rear door and press the lock button on the remote. Locks chatter, but won't lock because door is open. It feels like the exterior hatch handle is stuck, as there is no movement in or out. I removed the interior inspection panel & can open the hatch that way. Electric lock motor operates when I press the remote. To find this “handle” you’ll have to get in the back seat (don’t hesitate to fold it down for more space), and, at the trunk lock of your Mazda CX 5 (center of the tailgate), you’ll have to remove a plastic cover to see the entire lock appear.
